The Future is Listening
In a world where trust in institutions is declining, the future of the Church depends on our ability to listen well. Drawing on more than two decades of sociological research and insights from his new book, Faithful Futures, Dr. Joshua Packard will explore how sacred listening can transform the way congregations engage Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Rather than relying on outdated ministry models, he offers practical, research-based strategies for building trust, cultivating belonging, and developing the relational authority that young people seek. Participants will leave with fresh insights and actionable tools to help their ministries move from simply speaking to the next generation toward authentically accompanying them in faith.
Dr. Joshua Packard is a sociologist, researcher, and co-founder of Future of Faith, where he helps faith communities better understand and engage younger generations. A leading expert on the spiritual lives of American youth, he previously served as the founding Executive Director of Springtide Research Institute and Vice President of Strategy at the National Catholic Educational Association. Dr. Packard is the author of several books, including Faithful Futures and Church Refugees, and is a sought-after speaker on faith, belonging, and the future of religious communities. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Vanderbilt University.
